Maitum, Saranggani Province Nlu White Water Tubing : An Experience Worth Risking

UPDATE: VIDEO BELOW

"An Experience Worth Risking" that's the only thing that me and my friends blabber while we went home from the venue.

Cold River Water.

All Smiles and ready to go!

At the stop with my friends and GMA TV crew!

What am I talking about? An experience at one of the most unexplored places in Mindanao - Maitum, Saranggani Province. It is one of the hidden gem of Mindanao. It has a lot to offer especially with it's ecotourism. So if you have time, I suggest for you to explore this place especially this summer season as the water is so clear and the torrent is not that harsh but if you really wanted adventure, you can always wait for the summer rain. Why? Because the torrent is just too much and it is indeed an adventure of once in a lifetime! XD I'm not saying to go there when it's raining because I highly doubt that the Officer-in-Charge of the area, Digs Movilla, will allow it since it would be dangerous to both the tourist and the guide to do the adventure with those rapids of water but all in all, we actually did this adventure 3 times!

NOTE: You should bring a slipper with straps or diving shoes on it or you'll look like me.
In case you are wondering how you'll go to the starting point of the adventure, you will actually ride a habal-habal and it's for free. It is already part of the 200/300 pesos that you're going to pay.

From General Santos City or Gensan, you can catch a bus or a van going to Maitum for 150 pesos for the bus and 130 pesos for the van but I suggest, If you are a group of at least 10, you can actually rent the van for 150 per head and you will be directed to the venue but if you want to do more that, you can actually rent a van per day. The rate starts at 2500 - 3500 per day - it all depends on the van company and you will pay for the gasoline of the vehicle which is I believe more cheaper if you really wanted to explore the area and if you have other places to go.

If you are only a typical explorer, a loner or on a small group, if you have car, you can go there. You can always trust google maps for that (trust me) but you can always ask the locals about the location. But if you and your squad want to be an explorer like what we did you can ride a van or bus as stated before to Maitum and you can ask the driver to drop you off to crossing Barangay Pangi. Then, you can ride a tricycle from crossing Brgy. Pangi to Brgy. New La Union - the location of Nlu White Water Tubing, for 50 pesos. At the venue, you can choose what adventure would you like to take. They have a lot to offer and a lot of things to explore. Below are the things you could do there:

The things you could do on Nlu White Water Tubing. I suggest you do everything! :)
All Smiles.

There's two type of water activity you can try - the regular 1.6 KM and 2.1 KM ( I heard that they will open the 4 KM in the future). The 1.6 KM ride is good for 200 pesos while the 2.1 KM is for 300 pesos. You might think that the 500 m difference is not worth it especially that it will cost you 100 pesos more but I suggest you get the 2.1 KM one. Why? It is because you can explore the location more because you will walk from the dropped off point up above the starting point of the river and there's a great scenery there for you to take pictures and just enjoy nature. It's a shame that we we're not able to take any pictures of it since the GoPro's SD card that we use was broken and we were not able to save all of the pictures that we took.:(

This is a screenshot from my video. This is really a nice spot for you to take pictures. It's a shame that the pictures we took here where not saved.

All in all, the experience is all worth it and it's dirt cheap to be very honest. If you are a student and you want to have some adventure, you can do this, it will not break your bank! We did this 3 times in one day (I will post a separate blog post for that). You can contact Digs Movilla 09103127772. I suggest you contact him early in the morning or at night since he said, when he's in the area, there's no signal and he's right.

BTW, he is our silly guide and the one that took all our videos and pictures. I suggest you let him take your videos and pictures. He's a real pro! You can trust him in this.
Doing it with this adventure is all worth it!

This place is worth it! <3
